西陣織の最高峰「唐織」
舞台で使用される本物の能装束

中国から渡来した文物を独自の文化に取り入れた日本では、珍しく貴重なものを「唐のもの」と呼ぶ。能装束として用いられている唐織は太く合わせた絹糸を文様にふんだんに織り込み、刺繍のような豪華なテクスチャーを生み出す織物。高度な技術を持った織り手でも、一日に数センチしか織り進めない。まさに珍しく貴重な西陣織の技術の最高峰。

When antiquities from China were brought over to Japan and later incorporated into Japanese culture, particularly valuable items were given the name “Kara” which means Tang Dynasty China. The costume of the famous Japanese “Noh” plays, the Karaori is composed of intricately woven thick silk threads resulting in a luxurious texture usually only found in embroidery. Our highly trained master weavers are only able to produce a few centimeters or inches of this fabric per day. This extremely rare Nishijin weaving is the product of artisans of the highest caliber.
