末広がりのめでたい大扇
扇は絵画を絵付けされることによって実用を兼ねた美術作品になる。「西野工房」は扇面に蒸着箔をつける技術をあみ出し、独自の紗型（スクリーン）技術で手描きに近い表現を追求する工房。特別に制作された約1ｍの大扇は、扇に絵画を描くという工房のこだわりを極めた作品。専属の絵師が描いた鳳凰は、本金箔とホログラフィ箔が美しい。
A Chinese phoenix is painted on the broad surface of this great,
auspicious fan.
The painting on this fan makes it an object of art as well as an object of practical value. Having devised a way to steam-press the silver leaf onto the paper surface of the fan, Nishino Studio pursues the closest thing to handpainting with its silk screen techniques. This one metre, large fan, epitomizes the studio’s taste for decorating fans with paintings. The studio’s own artist has painted a Chinese phoenix resplendent in real gold, silver, and holographic leaf.

扇面に本金箔を定着させてゆく工程。色は一色ごとに版を重ねてシルクスクリーンで刷る。
この扇面紙に竹骨を通して折って仕上げる。
Real gold and silver leaf is applied to the paper surface of the fan. Each colour is screen-printed layer by layer. Bamboo spindles are attached to the paper to create the frame of the fan.
