宮中で生まれた優雅で愛らしい御所人形

日本の人形の歴史は平安時代（794～1191年）の宮中に始まり、御所人形は高貴な人々の間で愛された優雅な姿を受け継いでいる。貝の殻をすりつぶして作った胡粉という顔料を塗り、なめらかに磨き上げた優雅な白い肌、丸い顔、三頭身の子どもの姿がその特徴。人形が手に持っているのは子どもの健やかな成長を願う端午の節句の鯉のぼり。

Elegant Gosho dolls: born in the Heian court and beloved for a thousand years.

The history of Japanese dolls began in the courts of the Heian-era (794-1191); and the elegant style of the Gosho dolls has come to us just as it was when beloved by the Heian aristocracy. Shells are crushed to make the chalk which is then applied to the face of the doll. The smooth white skin, round face and the head, three times larger than the body, are characteristics of Gosho dolls. The dolls hold the jumping carp of the boy’s festival in one hand symbolizing the wish for children’s healthy development.
