手作業の「竜巻絞り」が生み出す
ツートーンカラーと繊細なプリーツ
日本の絞り技法は細かく分類すると１００以上あるといわれる。その奥深い技と美を伝える「京都絞り工芸館」のショップで販売しているスカーフは、「竜巻絞り」という技法で染められたもの。長方形の絹布を細かくプリーツを折りたたんで絞り、畳み込まれた部分が防染され、それを再度染めることで、ツートーンの配色が現れる。
“Tornado” tie-dyeing (Tatsumaki-shibori) by hand produces fine pleats and delicate two-tone colours.
There are said to be over 100 Japanese tie-dyeing techniques if they are strictly classified. Kyoto Shibori Museum continues some of these profound and beautiful methods. The scarves sold in the shop are dyed according to the “tornado” tie-dyeing method. The fine folded pleats are dyed once before wrapping around a rope and winding tightly with a thread that protects from the dye, and over-dyed again to produce a two-tone colour.
手仕事ならではのランダムなプリーツ。配色は定番ではなく、染色するたびに随時変わる。The pleats are random because they are produced by hand.
Colours are not standardized and vary with each dyeing.

生地を綿糸でくくって、らせん状に絞ってゆく竜巻絞り。絞った状態の細さから、絞りの密度の高さがしのばれる。
Cotton threads are used to bind the cloth into a spiral before “tornado” tie-dyeing begins. The density of the cloth is concealed by its fine pleats.
